Add a home-page teaser/promo#
FIG. 1 -- The home-page teaser/promo
To add a promo to the top of our homepage, go to the online edit interface:
http://edit.theday.com/apps/pbcsedit.dll/red
FIG. 2 -- The Links admin page – Creating a Link
Go to menu item "Miscellaneous > Link Directory"
From the "Categories" dropdown, select "Home Teaser" and filter the results. Only 1 can be published at a time. If there is currently no teaser on the home page, there should be none published in the "Home Teaser" category.
To create a new teaser, click the "New item" button. If the category field isn't filled, select "Home Teaser" from the drop-down; fill in the Title Field (keep it short); the Description field (see Custom icons section, below) and the link field; if it's a link on our site, you only need the relative URL:
- /section/sports/
- /statenortheast/20160406/budget-plan-offers-painful-cuts-but-remains-out-of-balance).
In other words, you can strip the leading www.theday.com from the URL.
Once you've published your teaser, go to this URL:
www.theday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/misc?url=/misc/refer.pbs&nocache=1
That re-caches the teaser. Then reload the homepage. Your teaser should be in place.
To remove a promo, simply un-publish it. Only published promos show up in the promo spot on the homepage. No published promos = empty promo spot.
Custom icons
You can change the icon that displays with the teaser by entering a single word in the description field. If you leave the field blank it will display the teaser/promo text & link without an icon. These are the options for the description field. All you need is the single word in bold (or leave the field empty):
- Leave description field blank = No icon
- news = star icon
- music = musical notes icon
- food = fork & knife icon
- gallery = camera icon
- video = video camera icon
- xmas = wrapped gift icon (new 11/30/16)
